Former Hospital Volunteers Make a Bequest to Henry Mayo

Former Hospital Volunteers Make a Bequest to Henry Mayo

Former hospital volunteers and Santa Clarita residents Bob and Linda Rambonnet became the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Legacy Circle newest members, by including a bequest to Henry Mayo in their estate plan.

For Bob and Linda, the decision to name Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation as a beneficiary of their bequest came naturally. They explain, "We have no children. We are passionate about two causes – healthcare and animal welfare. We love Henry Mayo. After discussing with our trust attorney, we decided to include Henry Mayo in our estate plan. "

Linda volunteered at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital's information desk. Bob volunteered as a shuttle driver. He remembers, "When I retired, Linda was working. I decided to volunteer, and came to the hospital. Maria Strmsek, director of volunteers, needed a shuttle driver. I took the job and loved it."

Linda was a grateful patient at Henry Mayo, where she was hospitalized for a week once. "I went to urgent care and was sent to the Henry Mayo ER with a suspicion of a heart attack. After running multiple tests, the doctors and staff at Henry Mayo ruled that out." Linda is also grateful to Henry Mayo for taking care of her mother. Bob's late mother, too, was a patient at Henry Mayo. Bob remembers, "She was a breast cancer survivor, who was operated on in 1991. She received care at Henry Mayo many times, and staff knew her by name. She passed away in 2012, at the age of 97."

The Rambonnets lived in Santa Clarita for 29 years. Bob worked in the food industry sales for Kraft Foods. Linda worked in health care and life insurance at Prudential and Cigna, and, after that, in the mortgage lending industry for Countrywide Loans (later Bank of America Home Loans). They moved to Indio three years ago. "We miss Santa Clarita, it is such a nice community. But we love it here. We bought a new home, and made lots of new friends already." To stay involved, they volunteer at the Eisenhower Medical Center – Bob in the ER, and Linda at the gift shop.

Bob came from Queens, New York, and met Linda, a native Californian, at the Catholic Singles Club of the San Fernando Valley. Soon, they will have been happily married for 40 years. Happy anniversary, Bob and Linda — and thank you for your generous support of Henry Mayo!

The Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Legacy Circle consists of dedicated donors who have provided a gift to Henry Mayo through their estate plans. They are recognized by listing on the Legacy Circle wall in the main hospital lobby.
