Breaking New Ground

Breaking New Ground Special guests joined hospital officials and employees for a festive groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new patient tower.

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital staff and supporters excitedly broke ground on the Henry Mayo Patient Tower on October 19. Scheduled to open in late 2019, the patient tower will provide up to 142 additional patient beds to the hospital's campus.

"The tower allows us to offer a state-of-the-art facility with all-private patient rooms with bathrooms. Henry Mayo was built at a time when that was not the standard, but this is very important to patient care and comfort today, and we are very pleased to be able to provide it," said Marlee Lauffer, President of the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation.

As the Santa Clarita Valley grows, so does the hospital's commitment to expanding its facilities, programs and services. In line with that focus, the six-story, 160,000-square-foot patient tower will feature a rooftop helipad, close to 120 new medical and surgical beds, 22 antepartum/postpartum beds, and seven labor/delivery beds.

Indoor and outdoor dining areas and a central atrium dining garden will welcome visitors, while ample room and hotel quality dining/nutritional services will enhance the patient experience.

Funding for the $150 million project will be achieved through a mix of philanthropic donations, hospital investment and bond financing.

According to Lauffer, the response to the patient tower has been enthusiastic. "We have a generous community, including employees, physicians and leadership who have helped contribute almost $5 million already," she said. "The campaign will formally launch in early 2017."
